The VIP55SM holds two microphones side by side. It can hold any Shure microphone with a tapered handle and is most typically used with two SM57 microphones. Each microphone is held in a vibration mount, resembling an air-filled doughnut, and the mount attaches to a standard mic stand.
It has been used by the President of the United States, many politicians, and other notable figures. The microphones are spaced widely enough to allow each to be fitted with the A81WS windscreen for outdoor use in high winds. The yoke that holds the two shock mounts is metal, while the two shock mounts are made of plastic and a rubber-like material. The base is plastic with a threaded metal insert.
